Wellington Art Club Newsletter December 2012 - January 2013

Newsletter Editor: Dale Sweeney

'tis the season to be jolly,
so come along and celebrate the Art Club's great year
at our Christmas Party

SATURDAY 1st DECEMBER
at 6pm at the clubrooms

Ladies a plate please and Gents some wine to share.

BEST WISHES FOR A MERRY CHRISTMAS
AND A HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

Christmas is around the corner – the year has gone so fast, with all of us busily painting and creating works of art. The high standard was there to be seen at our annual “Spring” exhibition held last weekend at Rita Angus Retirement Village in the light and bright atrium there. We were able to hang approximately 240 paintings- large and small - and we sold 50 pieces of art, 25% of what was hung - fantastic! What a great weekend in the atrium and so many viewers and buyers enjoying our art.

It was a great year for working groups at the club. Tuesday to Friday each week members are enjoying their time painting – and only a cost of $4 – all day, plus coffee/ tea and biscuits. Where else can one spend a day in such a bright and light venue for such a small cost?

All groups are continuing on to Christmas week and starting up again after New Year (See page 3). Wishing you all a fabulous Christmas and a happy new year – Come along on Saturday evening on Dec 1st and join the celebrations, a good way to round off the year.

Watercolour NZ “Splash” Diamond Jubilee Exhibition

Royalty came to the Academy Galleries on October 12th with the opening of Watercolour New Zealand's 2012 Annual Exhibition - Diamond Jubilee Splash. The exhibition was opened by the Governor-General, Lt Gen the Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae. Wellington Art Club was represented and several members sold their work.

As well as the excellent watercolours, “Splash” featured a two-volume limited edition publication of watercolour
paintings of the Prince of Wales' garden at Highgrove, on loan from its London publisher. We congratulate Watercolour New Zealand on another successful event.

Life Drawing every third week

We have experienced artists with many years' experience who will help other artists improve their
skills. Life drawing helps members' drawing abilities and also gives confidence and at the small fee
of $8.00 is well worth while. So come and join us every Monday evening from 7pm to 9pm.
Cup of tea and biscuits at 8.15pm and refreshments and chat afterwards.

Mark on your calendar.
We finish for the rest of the year Monday 10th December and start again 4th February 2013
thereafter every third week on Mondays: ( 25th February 2013; 18th March 2013..... )

Speaking financially, we could do with some more members to attend.
We have a professional model who charges $40 per evening so in order to help the club's running
expenses we need at least 10 people to join us.
($8.00 per member = $64.00. minus $40 leaves the club with $24.00)

Volcano

Painting and poem by Sue Johnston

We are just a mere scratch mark in time

Fire and ash rising high into the sky

Molten rock crashing down

Sizzling as it cools in the vast ocean

We watch in wonder

As the new earth evolves before our eyes.
