WELLINGTON ART CLUB NEWSLETTER

Olympia’s chat

We are enjoying the lazy-hazy days of summer so much that time is passing and much is happening with the Miramar Peninsular art Trail and our Mural – so time to keep everyone in the loop, especially those not attending weekly groups.

Attached is the entry form for our exhibition, we would love to see new art though if you wish to enter art already at the club, that is fine.

Large works can be exhibited in the Community Centre Hall as we have use of it Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1pm. This could be good for “Artists in Action’ as well. On Thursday many of us met at the clubrooms to plan the sketching of our tiles for the Mural and it all looks fantastic – fitting together like a giant jigsaw. Phil’s artwork is amazing and he is staying ‘chilled’ as he helps us with the scaling. There’s a lot of detail but it will look wonderful once it’s up on the Community Centre wall and will be a great attraction for years to come.

Leftover plywood: Mary Mitchell is coming up with ideas for our own Mural of an arty theme to cover our stark walls outside and to make it look more like a studio/gallery, hopefully people will want to see what wonderful artwork lurks behind those walls – an idea that has been on my mind for a long time.

AGM

The AGM is to be held on Sunday April 3rd at 2pm. Please mark the date on your calendar.

I have enjoyed my time as President but it is now time for me to step down. Please consider and discuss who you would like to nominate for this position and also for committee membership. We have a great committee, a real can-do team and I’m sure there are keen members out there who could fill these positions equally well.

Elaine Kermode, Dave Shaw and Chris Andersen will stand down from the committee. They have all made a valuable contribution over the years to enhancing our club. Dave helped us make big decisions for improvements both inside and outside and I am truly grateful for his input as a non-artist, but he will still be with us as Del’s husband.

Elaine has been our colourful ‘Union Jack’ and good fun. Chris and Jenny have also moved to Kapiti but Chris will continue with Life Drawing on Monday nights. He has made an enormous success of this class, attracting large attendances and drawing attention from Weta Workshop employees.

Neighbourhood Week

The Community Centre are taking part in this event on Thursday march 17th with various events happening – sausage sizzles etc, so we will keep our exhibition, and “Artists in Action” going in support –I am sure I will still be painting my Mural tile!

Happy painting!
