SPRING NEWSLETTER 2018

A FEW WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT...

We seem to have had quite a busy year so far, with an even busier time coming up. On Saturday the 6th Of October we have a one day workshop to introduce you to Ian Logan. Ian is a very experienced art teacher from Wellington High School and has been based in Scotland for the last 15 years. Prior to that Ian ran his own gallery in Island Bay and has been involved with The Art Club since the 1990's.

Ian is offering the chance for you to learn something new, brush up a few skills and learn how to make your work stand out, in time for our Rita Angus Exhibition. However, Officially you can't actually enter anything that you have done from beginning to end at a workshop, as you would probably have had help from a professional artist.

A list is on one the big grey screens at the art club, below a copy of this poster, for you to enter your details. Thanks.

CD Case Desk Calendars

Prue is organising the production of CD case desk calendars to be sold at the Rita Angus art exhibition for about $10ea, all profits to the club. They will make wonderful stocking fillers, under the Christmas tree and will sit nicely on an office desk or kitchen bench.

Only 13 images are required so we ask you to submit one image of your work to Prue, pruejmiller@gmail.com by the 30th September. She will organise a random, anonymous selection by someone from outside the club. We ask you to submit a 'landscape', ie. longways picture in .jpg format suitable for a calendar. Bear in mind that the picture may be cropped by the printer, if need be.

Obituary

It is with sadness that the club noted the passing of long standing member John Steven, a.k.a 'Steve', on Thursday the 6th of September 2018.

Steve, a kind helpful man who often liked nothing more than a good chat, had been an enthusiastic member of the Art Club since the '60's.

Steve was an extremely good 'technical artist' who often won the 'people's choice awards at exhibitions. He was very knowledgeable and was well known for his helpful manner and welcoming ways particularly with new members.

Read more about Steve in our previous newsletter.
